Mosaic Festival & WCGN 2012

Hey everyone,

Here’s a few photo’s from the gig’s this weekend. Friday Rossi Tzonkov, Marlin Ramazzini and I performed at the Mosaic Festival then Ben Woods and I played for West Coast Guitar Night.

The first photo on the right was Ben and I playing Saturday night. (you can click on the photo for a larger image)

Both performances were at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. (my new home for the weekend)

The photo above is the Carumba set with Rossi’s steel drum and Marlin’s congas, bongos and timbales before our performance.

The next photo to your left is Rossi Tzonkov, Marlin Ramazzini and I hanging out for a photo op in the not so green, green room before out performance Friday night.

What a great weekend! Thank you Ben, Rossi & Marlin, You guys are fantastic!

Also a special thank you to Cal Koat, it was an honor to perform at Festival Mosaic this year and to Les Finnigan for having Ben and I once again at this years 14th Annual WCGN!

RC300 Tutorial – Looping with different loop lengths

Recently I’ve had a few emails of loopers asking how to use the rc300 to create loops with different lengths. So here’s a youtube video to help you work it out.

Please excuse the video quality as my time has been very limited lately so this was created in a real hurry.

Here’s the RC300 settings I used in the video demo…

Rhythm (Guide) Settings

  • Output to sub (for in ear monitor)
  • Sound used was hi hat
  • Rec Count = 1 meas
  • Play Count = 1 meas (off recommended)
  • 4/4 Time

Memory Settings

  • Single track = off
  • Change loop end

Track 1 Settings

  • Loop Sync = On
  • Tempo Sync = On

Track 2 Settings

  • Loop Sync = On
  • Tempo Sync = Off

Track 3 Settings

  • Loop Sync = On
  • Tempo Sync = Off

John Gilliat, Rossi Tzonkov & Ritmo Caliente!

July 26th, 2012 was my first performance with a group I created with Rossi Tzonkov called “Ritmo Caliente”

The idea to form this group was from Smooth Jazz Artist Gabriel Mark Hasselbach. Gabriel introduced me to Rossi and from there we added Brent Gubbels on bass and Chris Haas on drums and percussion.

The band is in it’s development stage so there will be a lot of tweaking with music, arrangements, instrumentation, etc… One thing for sure is that Rossi and I are having a great time working together in my own group, Ritmo Caliente, and Carumba.

So check out the video and by all means… offer up your feedback and suggestions!
