Today I’m playing a wedding and reception at Aberthau House in Vancouver. Aberthau House is an old vancouver mansion the has now become the West Point Grey Community Center. It’s a beautiful old home were they hold events such as the wedding I’m playing at today.
I left at 12 noon to arrive early as I would be performing in two locations and it was a really good idea as the traffic to Vancouver was insane! It took me a little over 2 hours to get to the gig today! A trip that would normally only take 45 to 60 minutes on a good day.
So I arrived just after 2pm. My first task was to meet the wedding planner a find my performance locations. The wedding was to be outside in the backyard were I would perform as a guitar duo then I would go inside to perform with my trio for the reception.
My second task was to set up the trio. I was performing up on a balcony overlooking the reception hall. The set up for this was quite simple… 2 pa speakers on the floor on either side of the band to fill the room and one powered monitor for us. Once we were set up on the balcony and we played a quick sound check it was time to get outside to set up for the wedding ceremony.
Btw, today called for rain however, it’s been a beautiful sunny day it looks like the rain will hold off until tomorrow morning, how wonderful is that!
Outside there is a sound system all ready to go so all I needed to do was plug into my Bose T1 digital mixer and plug into the existing pa. Andre (second guitarist in my duo) and I did a quick sound check, rehearsed the music for the wedding ceremony and we were ready to go! We began playing for the guests as they arrived from 3:45pm until 4:25 then we performed Sting’s “Fields of Gold” for the arrival of the wedding party. For the bridal procession we performed the wedding classic “Pachebel’s Canon in D”.
Once everyone was seated it was time for Andre and I to sneak away and head back to the house to get in place to perform for the reception. The reception time was from 5pm to 7:15pm. On our break we had sandwiches and soft drink then it was back to work. (if you want to call it that) At 7:25pm we performed the Gipsy Kings tune “Alegria” for the cake cutting ceremony. After the cake cutting it was time to tear everything down and get to my next gig. A 45min drive to Port Moody.
I arrived in Port Moody and quickly got set up for the next solo guitar performance. This event was a private backyard bbq party at a friends home. What a wonderful yard and home! And it was so fantastic that the weather was cooperating. I had phoned in earlier today as this event could have been canceled due to the weather. This event was nice and relaxing after a long day. Not only did I perform today but we’re renovating around our place and I was working on the reno earlier this morning.
I performed a couple of sets then it was time to pack up and get back home. Check back Thursday evening as I’ll be performing at McBurney Junction for Pandora Love Pod Event…
Btw… this will be a free event and if you’re into Pandora jewelry, it’s an event not to miss. Details on my live performance page.

Great job man.
