Today we had a little birthday party for me at my parents place in Tsawwassen were I grew up. I just turned 21! (Just kidding, T keeps reminding me I’m just a little bit older than that.
Tsawwassen is a wonderful place and my parents own a home right on the beach with a fabulous view of the Vancouver Islands and the ferry that takes you there.
I arrived and said hello to everyone then it was off to walk the girls along the beach. (My girls are Coco & Roxxi our min pins) after my walk it’s off to the ocean to reel in the crab traps. Right now is great time of year to get crabs. There are lots of the and it’s before the commercial fishermen have permission to fish the area dry.
Here you’ll find a few photos of our little trek to the crabs as well as my dad proudly holding up one of the little critters.
Once we arrived back to shore it’s time to toss the crabs in a boiling pot of salt water to prepair them for dinner. Cooking time is 15 minutes and they are cooked alive after the top shell is knocked off.
(I know it sounds so cruel) We boil them in the salt water from the ocean. When we have my friends over we also eat the crabs brain which is an expensive delicacy in Japan. The last time I was in Japan the crab brains were served up as a dip. Along with us eating eel spines, dancing fish, and raw chicken which is a specialty in Nagoya! Oh how I miss my tours in Japan! (I really do mean that. It’s a fantastic country. They even serve Mac & Cheese and burgers for the squeamish diners.)
What a nice time, great food, great company and hanging out in paradise. After and wonderful meal and cake it was time to head back home.
