Performing solo fiery Rumba Flamenco guitar at Iris, West Vancouver

Today I’m back performing for Iris Optical. This time it’s in West Vancouver.

As you may or may not know, Iris plays my music at their branches across Canada. They also performed my laser eye surgery last April. It’s always such a pleasure working with this wonderful company.

So for today’s event I’ll be performing solo guitar from 6 pm to 8 pm. It’s a short gig for me in a small venue. For this gig I’ll use a couple of small speakers.

Join me again behind the scenes…

Stay tuned…

What is it like to perform at the Vancouver Aquarium?

Today is my first gig of 2011!

It will be a corporate performance with my fiery rumba flamenco guitar trio with Andre Stepanian playing flamenco guitar and Lyndon Dewitt on percussion.

Once again I’ll be performing background music for an unknown companies annual gala event. I’ll plan to arrive at 5pm to set up and our performance will begin at 6:30pm and will play until 10:30pm.

I have no idea what to expect for this gig so I’ll be bringing a medium size system with 4 Yamaha PA speaker cabnets for the room and a single powered monitor for the band. If it’s a really big group I’ll also be using in ear monitors.

Here’s a video I shot of the shark tank with my blackberry while we were hanging out before the gig.

I plan to leave at 3:30pm and if the traffic is light as it usually is on a Sunday, I should arrive between 4:30 or 5pm. This gig is also formal attire therefore we’ll all be wearing a suit and tie.

Once I arrived I entered the aquarium to find the event coordinator to find out were we’ll be setting up. I’ve played the aquarium a number of times now and the big room we were to play in is not the best for sound. Lot’s of glass and smooth surfaces. (yuck)

We began playing after a short speech at 7:15ish, the people at the event really enjoyed us and it looks like I’ll be back next year. Unfortunately I didn’t bring cd’s as there were a number of people from the group that would of loved a copy. It’s never my intention to sell cd’s at a corporate performance however it’s always a good idea to have a few copies on hand in the car. (bad packing today)

After the gig it was time to pack up, unfortunately it was pouring rain outside. Good thing I was able to park very close and a bonus was that parking for tonight was only $2!

Performing at the Vancouver Four Seasons Hotel for St. Pauls Hospital

Today I’m performing solo guitar at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver for St Pauls Hospital.

Once again I’m at the Four Seasons hotel and today I’ll be playing in the Seasons Ballroom. I’m not a big fan of this room mostly because of the sound. It’s a room with a low ceiling and all glass at one end. It can be a really loud room.

Fortunately for me this is a relatively small group. So every one should hear me without my volume being too loud. As a background, ambient corporate guitar gig this always the biggest challenge. I really with I could include a sound tech on all these gigs.

The gig was a 6:30pm start and I’m done at 8:30pm. It’s a very short gig for a reception and dinner type of event.

For my setup I used 1 powered monitor for me and a 1 PA speaker at each end of the room.

The gig was good, no real problems except for my worrying about achieving the right volume in the room.

Once again I had a lot of good feedback from the client so that always puts me at ease.

Tomorrow is a teaching day and working on my new guitar school site. Then Saturday it’s back to Willowbrook Mall for another solo performance.

Stay tuned…

Performing in December at the Willowbrook Mall

Today is the beginning of my Christmas performances at the Willowbrook mall in Langley. This is something I’ve been doing for many years now along with performances for the Hudson’s Bay stores.

This year however I’ll just be at Willowbrook. You can check my website or is blog for times and the stage location.

Today I’m playing from 4pm to 8pm and have spent the morning getting my gear and cd’s organized and packed up in the truck. I’ll plan to arrive shortly be for 3pm to set up.

These are free public performances for any christmas shoppers who would like to take time out to relax and listen.

I’ll have cd’s available for gifts and will be performing music from both my christmas albums as well as music from my cd’s Freedom, Peace and Beyond Boundaries.

Come on by and say hi!
