Rumba Flamenco Guitar in Cochrane Alberta and on Roof Top of the Hotel Vancouver

Playing solo guitar at the Cochrane Ranch HouseRumba Flamenco Guitar in Cochrane, What a week it’s been!

I began by week flying to Calgary last Friday for a solo rumba flamenco guitar performance at the Spring is in the Art Show.

It’s the middle of April so we kind of laughed as it was snowing a lot the evening before I arrived. It was more like “Winter is still in the Air”! The picture on your right is the Cochrane Ranch House where I performed Friday and Saturday.

As a mater of fact, I had so much fun playing for everyone that I returned to the event Saturday to play solo guitar again from 11am to 3pm.My solo guitar setup on the Roof Top of the Hotel Vancouver

From there it was a rush back to the Calgary Airport to return my car.

Next I was off to Vancouver again for a solo rumba flamenco guitar performance up on the roof top of the Hotel Vancouver for an event for the University of Michigan.

Performing solo guitar at the Sheriton Wall Centre for the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute

Today is a pretty busy day! I’ll be teaching private guitar lessons from 3pm to 7pm. Then I’ll jump in my truck and head to Vancouver to play a solo latin jazz guitar performance for the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute at the Sheriton Wall Centre.

I spent this morning rounding up all the sound gear that I’ll need for tonight’s gig. I’ll have my performance clothes and truck all packed and ready to roll.

Once I’m finished with my lessons I’ll quickly get changed, grab my guitar and hit the road to Vancouver. The tip to downtown should take an hour. I’ll leave at 7:30pm and arrive no later than 9pm. (My contracted set up time)

My performance this evening will begin at 10pm and end at 12:30am. I haven’t played a gig this late since my 80′s rock and roll dates!

Wow, Absolutely no traffic driving into the gig tonight. Everyone is watching the Vancouver Canuck’s hockey game.

I left Langley at 7:30 and arrived at the Sheraton Wall Centre at 8:15pm! I wish the drive was always this quick.

Now finding a room in the Wall Centre can be crazy. Two towers and elevators everywhere with a massive parking garage. Fortunately tonight I got lucky and pick the right tower and elevator! I was in the south tower in the Pavilion Ballroom D.

The set up for this gig was easy. There was a small stage and the room was a nice size. I was set up and ready to play by 9:30pm with lot’s of time to relax, tune and warm up.

At 9:30 the ballroom was beginning to fill up so I played a cd then began my performance 10 or 15 minutes earlier. At 11pm I quickly plugged in a mic for a raffle then I continued playing until everyone had left at 12:15am.

I then packed up as quick as possible and arrived home at 1:30am. I’ll then be up at 7am for a morning gig back in Vancouver! Zzzzzzzzz…

Stay tuned…

Playing solo rumba flamenco guitar at Taverna Gorgona

Tonight I’m back to play solo rumba flamenco guitar in a wonderful Greek restaurant in Ladner, BC.

I usually book myself in once a month however I haven’t performed there since November of last year.

Taverna Gorgona is a great place to sit and relax with a nice hot coffee and play. Best of all is the amazing food!

For tonight’s gig I’ll leave my home around 3:45 pm and plan to arrive at the venue for 5pm. I don’t have to bring a very large sound system as I will plug into the house system. I’ll bring my Bose T1 mixer with a couple of small Yamaha monitors.

My performance will begin at 6pm and I’ll take 2 or 3 breaks before I end at 10pm. Then I’ll sit and enjoy a wonderful meal.

Playing Solo Guitar for the Vancouver Wine Festival – Day 2

Here we are at day 2 performing solo fiery rumba flamenco guitar for the Vancouver Playhouse Wine Festival.

Today will be much easier as my performance is in one location and only for an hour. My performance will be at the Vancouver Convention Centre East and will begin at 3:30 pm until 4:30 pm.

I’ll leave my place in Langley at 1 pm to give me lots of time. I’m planing to arrive no later that 2:30 pm to get set up.

Traffic was light so I arrived at the venue at 2 pm. We have two Vancouver Convention Center’s, so we now define them as East and West. Today I’m playing guitar in the East building. (Room 11)

Sometimes arriving well ahead of schedule buys you a little R&R time which is the case today as there is still an event taking place in the room that I’ll be performing in.

Today was the most perfect day to step outside the Convention Center doors to smell the fresh air and look out at our very beautiful Vancouver harbor.

So it looks like the meeting will continue right until my start time. I’ll set up my sound system outside the room then quietly enter the room, sneak the system in, plug in and play.

At 3:30 pm I was all set up and ready to perform however the meeting continued to go on until 4:05 pm. It was very interesting to hang out and listen in. I now know a lot more about wines than I did 30 minutes ago. It’s all very interesting!

I began my performance at 4:05 pm and by 4:30 everyone had left and it was time to pack up to head home. Once I arrived home it was time for a quick dinner then we’re rehearsing for the tour tomorrow.

Check back in tomorrow to follow me around British Colombia as I travel with my trio for performances in Kelowna, Penticton and Ashcroft.

Stay tuned…
