Tonight I’m back to play solo guitar at Vancouver’s newly renovated Rosewood Georgia Hotel.
I’m really, really excited about this one as I’ll be performing for The Hershey’s Company. Yes!, The Chocolate Guy’s!
Once again I’ll be taking you behind the scenes with another episode of Guitar Slinger
Then I’m off to Kamloops, BC where I’ll be performing as a soloist and then as a guitar duo with Andre Stepanian and the lovely Flamenco Dancing Virtuoso Stephanie Pedraza!
Last Saturday evening I played my guitar at the Capilano Suspension Bridge for a group of US senators. This job is so awesome because I get to work with (and for) so many interesting people from all over world.
I’m having more fun now than ever before as I feel I’m finally getting my head and hands around playing this wonderful instrument. I’ve also finally worked out how to get a live nylon string guitar sound I like. That in itself has taken over 10 years to find!
Anyways, back to the gig…
The Capilano Suspension bridge is such a wonderful place to perform. It’s beautiful and peaceful. For this gig I performed with my Rumba Flamenco, Latin Jazz trio.
Here’s a link to the Capilano Suspension Bridge web site if you would like to visit there for yourself… http://www.capbridge.com/
Joining me once again on guitar was Andre Stepanian and on percussion was Lyndon Dewitt.
I arrived at 5:30pm to set up and we began at 7:20ish. The gig lasted until 10:20pm.
Once again I’ve taken my “Gig Cam” with me so you can join me behind the scenes today on the gig.
Music featured in this episode is my trio’s performance of Hotel California by the Eagles.
Today I have two back to back guitar gigs! Should be a crazy busy day.
Task 1: Rent a battery powered amp from Long and McQuade for tomorrows wedding gig.
Load up the sound gear then we’re off to…
Gig 1: I’ll be playing solo guitar for Harrison Pointe in Langley, BC from 2pm to 3:30pm then it’s off to…
Gig 2: A guitar duo corporate performance at the Oru Restaurant in the new Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in downtown Vancouver from 6:45pm to 8:15pm.
I would also like to welcome Vangel who will be sub’ing in for Andre Stepanian in the second guitar chair tonight.
As always I’ll be taping both events to present to you Guitar Slinger Season 1 Episode 6 – Double the Fun.
Once again I’ve taken my “Gig Cam” with me so you can join me behind the scenes on the gigs.
Here’s the 411 on Vangel my new guitar sub. Vangel came out to my March 12th performance here in Fort Langley with Ben Woods. Then he contacted me via email asking to get together to do a little playing. Andre Stepanian (my first call) has been busy performing weekends at the Latin Quarter in Vancouver so for a short notice performance such as this one Vangel was the perfect fit!
Once we’re done with the gigs I’ll rush back home to rehearse song for a wedding tomorrow. The scary part is, the bride still hasn’t advised me as to what songs she would like me to perform!
Wish me luck! I may need it.
Oh, I forgot to mention that this morning I was also busy getting a raccoon and her babies out of my work shop attic!
Today I’ll be performed at the Burnaby Best Western Inn and Convention Center with my rumba flamenco quartet.
The cast of performers on Guitar Slingers this evening will be Andre Stepanian on the flamenco guitar, Brent Gubbels on bass, the new kid on the block, Todd McGarvey on the cajon (the box) and yours truly John Gilliat on guitar.
More Guitar Slinger episodes coming up, stay tuned…
