I arrived at Willowbrook at 10:30am leaving me lots of time to set up the PA, stage, and all the merchandise. Once everything was set I had enough time to grab a coffee and 10 minutes warm up.
The performance today was great, with lots of people hanging out to have a listen however, there were a couple of shops that were not too happy with the volume. It seems like the same scenario every year. Too quiet and the people that stop by to listen are telling us to turn it up, then it’s too loud which makes it difficult for the merchants around us to talk to their clients. It’s difficult to get the balance right so everyone’s smiling.
Playing the mall each year can be such a grind however, seeing all the kids dancing around to the music and having the time to say hi to a lot of old friends, fans and former guitar students that I haven’t see in awhile makes it all worth while.
For anyone interested in the gear I use for this gig… My flamenco guitar plugged into my Fishman Aura 16 acoustic imaging pedal into my Bose T1 digital mixer. Then out to a Behringer B212 powered monitor for me and out to a Fender 750Watt power amp to 4 Yamaha PA speaker cabs. I can then control the volume on stage, the volume directed out the side of the stage and the volume to the front of the stage.
Next I’m back to the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver to perform a private corporate event for the hotel. I’ll be playing with my Rumba flamenco, Latin jazz quartet. Most of my Christmas gigs are solo so tomorrow I’m off to Andre’s rehearse all the christmas tunes before Thursday’s gig. Which means I’ve been spending the last 2 days creating charts for everyone. It’s a busy time!
I’ll be back at Willowbrook this Friday from 4pm until 8pm for anyone who would like to come down and say hi.
