John Gilliat with "A Night of Bowie"

Alix Goolden Performance Hall, 907 Pandora Ave, , Victoria

A Victoria musician with strong ties to the Thin White Duke is giving David Bowie fans in Victoria a chance to experience his concert performances.

Syl Thompson, who, since the 1980s has incorporated musical tributes to the late British singer into his act, brings A Night of Bowie: The Definitive Bowie Experience to the Alix Goolden Performance Hall on March 2.

Considered by some observers to provide one of the most credible and realistic Bowie tribute shows in North America, Thompson and his band, Ground Control, focus mainly on hits from Bowie’s heyday between the early 1970s to the early 90’s.

The songs span the broad spectrum of his career from 1969’s Space Oddity to 2013’s Where Are We Now?

Thompson, who operates his own recording studio in Victoria, created A Night of Bowie in 2013. The current lineup of Ground Control includes original members, bassist Rob Begg and guitarist John Gilliat; drummer Kyle Radomsky and sax player/flautist Graham Howell, all of whom have gigged with well-known acts and top professionals.

Tickets are $39.50 plus fees and are available at alixgooldenhall.com, the Victoria Conservatory of Music at 907 Pandora Ave., or by phone 250-386-5311. Visit anightofbowie.com to learn more.
